The Home Essentials Hub has been created to ease the transition from homelessness to independent living by providing essential items to help individuals set up a comfortable, functional and secure home. Through the Home Essentials Hub, beneficiaries (referred by partner charities) can access furniture, household items, and housing starter packs all from one place. By responding quickly and compassionately, we hope to offer those moving from temporary accommodation the best possible start in their new permanent homes.
The Home Essentials Hub was designed based on the insight of people with lived experience of homelessness and frontline support workers who recognised the importance of offering a home which is ready to live in rather than an empty property.
Home Essentials Hub: About
The Home Essentials Hub is a partnership project between One Roof Leicester, Action Homeless, Open Hands and Leicester’s Homelessness Charter.
Beneficiaries of the project are individuals who have experienced homelessness and are ready to make the move from temporary accommodation to independent living.
Action Homeless and One Roof Leicester, local charities providing temporary accommodation and support to people experiencing homelessness, refer people to The Home Essentials Hub as part of their preparations for resettlement.
Open Hands, a local charity experienced at providing practical support to individuals experiencing poverty, homelessness and unemployment, then handle the logistics of sourcing and delivering the items that beneficiaries need.
The project has secured funding for a 12-month pilot period from Leicester City Council and The National Lottery Awards for All.
