On 11th December 2025, we held a Families Summit, bringing people together to focus on families who are experiencing homelessness and living in temporary accommodation in the city. It brought together representatives from the Local Authority and education as well as a range of charities, support agencies and food hubs. The event centred on how best to support families in temporary accommodation. As well as hearing updates on the local and national picture, thanks to presentations by Chris Burgin (Leicester City Council Housing) and Morgan Harries (Homeless Link), table discussions took place which enabled the capturing of ideas and solutions.
Discussions focused on some of the key challenges impacting on families who are experiencing homelessness, as well as the opportunities to enhance support. Actions were identified under some key headings and themes including neighbourhood support, food and other practicalities, transport, health, communication, lived experience and housing.
Following the summit, a sub-group meeting around the health issues which were identified has been held and work has already begun on compiling an information pack for families at their point of entry into temporary accommodation.
We hope that the Summit will act as a springboard for people to come together in improving and enhancing the support available to families who find themselves homeless in Leicester.
