This workshop is part of our Supporting Homeless Migrants training package funded by MHCLG.

It is the first of our events aimed specifically at the voluntary sector, volunteers and community groups with no prior understanding of the topic.

Additional live events and elearning packages will be added soon, all free to eligible organisations.

What this event covers

This practical session for volunteers and community groups will cover:

  • an introduction to some common terms used in eligibility and homelessness, who is and isn’t eligible, and how someone makes a homeless application
  • what obstacles non-UK nationals face when applying as homeless
  • practical ways to provide support – signposting to immigration, homelessness, legal and practical support groups and agencies.

We will focus on the practical elements of providing support, rather than the technical legal aspects.

What you’ll learn

In this practical session, you’ll learn how to support non-UK nationals facing homelessness by understanding understanding key eligibility terms, common barriers to accessing help, and how to effectively signpost individuals to relevant immigration, homelessness, legal, and support services.

Who this event is for

This practical introductory session is for volunteers, night shelters, community and faith organisations.

No prior knowledge of the housing or immigration systems is required.
